Trump and Japanese New Prime Minister Share Compliments and Vow to Strengthen ‘Remarkable’ Relationship

In the course of a recent trip to Tokyo, ex- American leader Donald Trump together with Japan's new Prime Minister Takaichi shared warm compliments and pledged to strengthen the already strong two-way relations.

Highlights from the Meeting

Trump commended Prime Minister Takaichi as a ‘great’ leader and applauded her on assuming the role of the nation's first woman premier. During their discussions at Tokyo's official venue, Trump voiced optimism that Takaichi would prove to be one of the ‘outstanding leaders’ of the country.

Takaichi, who is a protégée of late Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, applauded Trump's initiatives to address international conflicts and according to sources pledged to put forward him for the prestigious award.

Trade and Defense Agreements

Both nations announced a series of joint initiatives in areas such as power, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals. Japan-based firms are exploring investments of up to $400bn in the United States.

Furthermore, Tokyo had previously committed $550bn in strategic American projects, loans, and assurances as part of an agreement to secure relief from the former president's import duties.

Such moves are seen as potentially easing any future demands from the US side for Tokyo to boost its defense expenditure. Takaichi addressed this by promising to accelerate proposals to increase military budget to 2% of gross domestic product.
